I only received three days of vacation at my new job this year, since I started at the end of October. I'm actually a little bit relieved that my new employer heavily discourages against carrying vacation days over to the next year, because if they did not, I would have saved those three days to count toward my maternity leave next year (some of which will be unpaid). Instead I am forced to take three days off (six if you count the weekend and Christmas day). When I left my old job, I received two weeks of pay for vacation accrued but not taken, so I am definitely due some down time.
I don't think I have ever worked so many days of the last two weeks of the year, though. The office is pretty empty and it's hard to motivate. Tomorrow will be worse, I'm sure, because I'll be looking forward to my evening flight to Chicago all day....

They encourage everyone to start the year off with no vacation at all? I can understand having a limit, but I've never heard of carrying over a week being an issue. I don't get it.
