I've been asking myself for the past few days why anybody would ever accept a senate-seat nomination from Rod Blagojevich.
I was wondering that same thing when a piece on the nomination and career of Roland Burris came on NPR Morning Edition this morning.
It all makes a little more sense now. Especially since he named both his children after himself. Hm.

I think many people would accept a senate nomination from Rod. If you weren't involved in any of his alleged dealings, then, at the worst, you're a pawn, and, at the best, you have 2 years in the US Senate to build lots of connections and fundraising networks.
If you manage to do a competent job, people might forget about how you got in and it could turn out to be a big opportunity. Now, Burris is 71, so I don't think he's thinking about the future, but he does seem to be pleased with his own accomplishments.
